Santo Domingo, December 17, 2018 – Vice President Dr. Margarita Cedeño, jointly with the Children and Youth Library (BIJRD) of the Dominican Republic formally announced the presentation of the musical “A Christmas Wish,” with the participation of the Library’s theater group and choir headed by actress Jacqueline Estrella and professor Maryam de Soto, respectively.
Library Director Dulce Elvira de los Santos explained that the musical will put an end to a very successful 2018, where the cultural center carried out an active cultural, reading and literary agenda. “The musical is a gift from Vice President Dr. Margarita Cedeño to all those who continuously visit the Library. The play will provide families with a magical evening, which will bring back the true meaning of Christmas with a message of love and solidarity,” explained writer Dulce Elvira de los Santos.
“A Christmas Wish” is a beautiful story, where the “…a little girl by the name of Angélica is seen alone and sad in her home. Suddenly, she receives the surprise visit of beautiful little stars that came down from the heavens to show her that all dreams can come true on Christmas Eve. The stars tell Angélica certain secrets, such as God’s plans for humanity, the knowledge they have of the universe and other stars and, most especially, stories on the night Baby Jesus was born.
The musical is part of the monthly schedule organized by the Office of the Vice President and the BIJRD. The one-hour play is scheduled for December 21 at 6:00 p.m., in the Library’s entrance, situated on Doctor Delgado Street. Entrance is free of charge.
Before the musical gets underway, the Library will issue award to those children and young adults who regularly use the cultural center’s Reading rooms and other activities.
The BIJRD Choir
The Choir began as an initiative of Vice President Cedeño in 2009, when she was the country’s First Lady. The choir is directed by professor Mayra Peguero and has won top awards in various local choir events.
Library Theater Group
The theater group is a product of the workshops sponsored by the Library in this particular area. The group is directed by actress and comedian Jacqueline Estrella, and the musical is the theater group’s latest production.
