Ministry of Culture Will Certify More than 20 Folklorists on National Folklore Day

Santo Domingo, January 23, 2020 – The Ministry of Culture, through its National Folklore Directorate, announced the fourth certification ceremony for folklorists working in different regions of the country.  The event will take place on National Folklore Day, held each year on February 10, at the Aida Bonnelly de Diaz Auditorium, in Santo Domingo’s National Theatre.

With this celebration, the Ministry will certify an additional 25 folklorists.  With this new number, the Ministry will have 50 folklorists working throughout the country to safeguard the traditional customs of the Dominican Republic.

The goal of this initiative is to recognize the efforts carried out by individuals who have spent long years working to rescue and teach all about the country’s folklore traditions. With their work they have become multipliers of the Dominican Republic’s traditions and popular culture.

The program will be coordinated by the Vice Minister for Cultural Identity and Citizenship and the National Folklore Directorate. The program will include a master conference on “Certification: National Pride and Commitment,” delivered by Andreina Jiménez.  The conference is specifically directed at musicians dedicated to Dominican folk music.

National Folklore Day was announced on February 10 and enacted on January 31, 2001.

These folklore experts concentrate mainly on the use of the local language, arts and crafts, gastronomy and music, among other cultural manifestations.
