Beaches

More than 400 kilometers of white sand on the shores of the Dominican Republic are surrounded by the warm, crystalline and blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, allowing the country to enjoy and offer some of the best beaches in the world. Here are just a few of them:

• Bahía de las Águilas. Located in the province of Pedernales, is said to be the best beach in the country for its crystal clear water and its many miles of white sand. The beach is still pristine, without hotels around, which makes reaching it an adventure that is worthwhile.
• Juanillo. Is located in Punta Cana and is one of the most picturesque and elegant beaches in the Dominican Republic.
• Sosúa. It is situated in the northern coast of the country, in the province of Puerto Plata. It is one of nature’s works of art. Its population is made of a number of Jews who settled in this area many years ago.
• Cayo Levantado. It is an islet in the Bay of Samaná. Undoubtedly, it is one of the best-known and most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic due to its crystal clear waters and white sands. It is ideal for swimming or snorkeling.
• Playa Grande. Located on the San Juan River, this beach is one of the favorites in the area, due to its big waves and the length of the beach, which allows for pleasant and leisurely walks along the seashore.
• Cayo Arena. It is a small island located in Punta Rusia, north of Montecristi, also known as “Cayo Paraíso.” With very soft white sand, its waters have incredible colors and its depths are very enjoyable because they are excellent for diving and snorkeling.
• Rincón. Located in Samaná, this beach is still a very unspoiled place, without any real estate or hotel developments. It is recognized at the international level for being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and of the Caribbean due to its fine white sand and turquoise blue water, surrounded by lush and unique vegetation.
• Macao. Located north of Punta Cana, is an extensive and beautiful beach surrounded by coconut trees. It is also renowned for its venues for surfing, and its promenades on horses or buggies.

Did you know? The Dominican Republic has 21 Blue Flag-certified beaches, which is an internationally recognized accreditation certifying that the beaches comply with strict standards for water quality, environmental management, safety and services, among others. These parameters were created by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Blue Flag certified beaches in the country are located on the eastern side of the country, in the areas of ​​La Romana, Punta Cana, Bávaro and Cabeza de Toro, as well as in Samaná and Puerto Plata, in the northern part of the country.
