Meteorologists Announce Heavy Rains and Flood Warnings The National Meteorology Department announced last night that the storm warning off the coast of Puerto Rico has been classified as tropical Storm Olga, according to the Hurricane Center in Miami. In the face of this situation, the National Meteorology Department of the Dominican Republic is predicting heavy rains in various provinces in the east and north of the country. In a bulletin released at 10:00 PM on Monday and signed by the engineer Gloria Ceballos, stated that heavy rains have been reported over the Canal of La Mona, Miches, Higuey, El Seibo, Monte Plata and Hato Mayor. Weather reports indicate that the rain will be stronger in the mountainous areas and may cause flash flooding and possibly landslides and are asking people to remain informed and to continue to abide by previous warnings still in effect. This office has asked civil servants and first responders to closely follow the situation due to the movement of the weather pattern moving west and turning toward the west and southeast. Storm warnings in the coming hours could extend along the Caribbean coast and the Central mountain regions. Weather reports continue to warn the provinces of Puerto Plata, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, and Duarte. In particular, residents in Bajo Yuna are being told to take special precautions again overflowing rivers and streams that can result in flash floods produced by downpours.
