Main Tourist Sites Not Affected by Tropical Storm Olga The country’s main tourist areas did not suffer damage as Tropical Storm Olga ripped through the Dominican Republic. Hotel complexes continued to function as normal and no foreign tourists were affected by the storm, according to the Secretary of State for Tourism (SECTUR). A bulletin released by SECTUR’s Press and Communication Department indicated that despite the fact that Olga penetrated Dominican territory in the east then moved along the northern, northeastern then northwestern coastal areas, no damage to infrastructure was reported and there were no reports of flooding in any of the hotel complexes which allowed them to continue to operate without incident. The Dominican Ministry of Tourism confirmed that national and international airports maintained their operations and that planes transporting tourists came and went without delay or difficulty. The press bulletin also stated that although rain and high winds were reported in tourist areas such as Punta Cana, Bávaro, La Romana, Bayahíbe, Samaná, Puerto Plata, Juan Dolio, Boca Chica, and Barahona, there were no reports of incidents that would have put any tourist at risk.
