Big Concert to Honor Tropical Strom Noel Volunteers
On December 17th, the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace will host a huge concert with musicians from 30 countries who will join together to pay homage to volunteers who worked tirelessly and risked their lives to save others during the Tropical Storm Noel. Set to begin at 6:00 p.m., the invited guests include such musicians as Enrique Iglesias, Joan Manuel Serrat, Joaquín Sabina, Willie Chirino, Silvio Rodríguez, Fito Páez and David Bisbal who have all confirmed their participation. The event, not opened to the public, will be recorded on DVD the sales of which will be given to the volunteers.
“These men and women deserved the recognition of the entire country so that if we need them again, they will have known how much we appreciate their effort and solidarity,” explained Freddy Beras Goico and José Antonio Rodríguez, producers of the event.
“The history of our country is full of testimonies of men and women who have selflessly abandoned their daily routines to lend a hand in the service of others in need. We are now going to rescue these people from anonymity and make their exemplary stories public,” they continued.
For that reason, a group of concert producers including Luís Medrano, Cesar Suárez, Saymon Díaz, Roberto Cavada, Pedro Núñez Del Risco, Evempro and Pedro García have contacted musicians who represent the county and have requested their presence at the Sports Palace concert to honor the thousands of volunteers who left the comfort of their homes to help others when a crisis was upon us.
Artists who have confirmed their presence at the event are: Enrique Iglesias, Miriam Hernández, Lourdes Robles, Andy Montañez, Joan Manuel Serrat, Joaquín Sabina, Milagros Germán, Tania Báez, Lissete Álvarez, Willie Chirino, Sergio Vargas, Los Hermanos Rosario, Sonia Silvestre, Pavel Núñez, Víctor Víctor, Anthony Ríos, Andy Andy, Silvio Rodríguez, Fito Páez, Rubby Pérez, Joe Beras, Héctor Acosta (El Torito), David Bisbal, Milly Quezada, Don Francisco, María Antonieta Collin, Melina León, The Menudo Group, José Antonio Molina, Nuria Piera, Chayanne, Jatnna Tavarez, Yaqui Núñez del Risco, Zoyla Luna, Carlos Alfredo Fatule, Jochi Santos, Danny Rivera, Francisco Ulloa, El Prodigio, and many more. Freddy Beras Goico will MC the event.
The concert will be taped on DVD and sold. All money earned from DVD sales will be destined for the volunteers.
José Antonio Rodríguez reiterated that the concert is not open to the public. The only people present will be exclusively volunteer members of the Civil Defense Department, Energy sector, Firemen, Telecommunications sector, Public Works Secretariat, Armed Forces, Red Cross, Priests and Christian volunteers, Teachers, National Police, AMET and individual volunteers.
