Dominican Public Function Law Approved The Law of Public Function, that replaces the old Law of Civil Service and Administration, was approved last week by the Senate of the Dominican Republic . Introduced by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Julio César Valentín, the project was approved unanimously by the senators who welcomed a favorable report presented by the Justice and Human Rights Commission, headed by Francisco Domínguez Brito of the ruling PLD party. The new law regulates work relations of those employed by the State, Municipal and Autonomous authorities guaranteeing them professional and dignified working conditions. By the same token, the law seeks to procure stability for career administrative employees, define the requirements for public functionaries and to establish a recruiting program for civil servants. Effective immediately, there will also be the following bureaucratic classifications: freely appointed and promoted functionaries or civil servants, career functionaries or civil servants, non-contract functionaries or civil servants and temporary workers. The initiative was promoted by the National Administrative and Personnel Office (NAPO), directed by Ramón Ventura Camejo.
