Kalunga Eh! Los Congos of Villa Mella Presented at Book Fair

Carlos Hernández Soto’s book “Kalunga Eh! The Congos of Villa Mella” was featured in the Craft area of 11th International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2008.

…the author, pointed out that his book is the result of an arduous investigation of the themes referred to by Martínez including anthropological, socio-cultural and religious topics.

María Isabel Martínez, coordinator of the crafts area of the Book Fair, presented Soto’s scientific research book, calling it an extraordinary look at the development of Dominican cultural heritage.

Martínez noted that the themes dealt with in the book such as the Cofradia (brotherhood) and the Congos of Villa Mella represent the religious syncretism of the country as well as the African elements that form part of the cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic.

Carlos Hernández Soto, the author, pointed out that his book is the result of an arduous investigation of the themes referred to by Martínez including anthropological, socio-cultural and religious topics.

Soto stressed that he intended for his book to have an educational and scientific influence on young people and adults while also promoting an interest in acquiring and preserving these aspects of the country’s cultural traditions.
