Government Initiates Strategic Plan to Confront Food and Energy Crisis On Thursday, Dominican President Leonel Fernández began a series of work meetings with various government sectors to draw up an “Integral Development Plan” to confront the various aspects of the world crisis stemming from the rising food and fuel prices. The permanent work group was made up of members of the economic and social cabinet and experts from the energy, agriculture, industry and commerce sectors. The Head of State met for over two hours with members of the economic sector, who listened to the various ideas about the current situation. Following the meeting with the economic experts in the cabinet, specialists from the energy sector met and worked together for an hour and a half, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. The permanent work group was made up of members of the economic and social cabinet and experts from the energy, agriculture, industry and commerce sectors. They will continue their work sessions on Friday. The Head of State will first meet with the farming and agricultural sector followed by industry and commerce then the Energy Commission. Once these meetings have ended, they will evaluate the outcome and offer a diagnosis will serve as the basis to draw up pertinent measures to confront the challenges that faces the country, and the world, in the face of skyrocketing food and fuel prices.
