Dionisio Blanco and his Homage to Music and the Earth The sculptural ensemble “Homage to Music, Homage to the Earth” made of cast bronze made by Dionisio Blanco, artist from San Cristobal, was unveiled in the “Piedras Vivas” Park. The show, comprised of four large sculptures and two bas-reliefs, sits in the public space in front of the Provincial Cathedral that forms part of Blanco´s childhood memories. The show, comprised of four large sculptures and two bas-reliefs, sits in the public space in front of the Provincial Cathedral that forms part of Blanco´s childhood memories. The walls are covered in frescos done by Vela Zanetti and which Blanco calls the Sistine Chapel of the Caribbean. The syndicate of the Town Hall of San Cristobal affirmed that the sculpture exhibition is in keeping with President Leonel Fernández´s support for urban development and fine arts. This, of course, is good news for Blanco´s work, giving it importance as public art in that it is put together using the plazas and the very streets that have walked upon since the 16th Century. Dionisio Blanco believes that, as an esteemed son of his San Cristobal, he has rendered homage to music that can radiate the energy of the inhabitants´ cultural roots as they represent a “happening” with objects that are symbolic of the area, combined to reflect – in its hidden rhythm – the spectators of the human theater.
