La Feria del Libro acogerá el Pabellón del Humor Dominicano


The 46 Pavilions of the Book Fair Are an Impressive Show of Cultural Diversity



This year, the main novelties include dedications to Juan Bosch, Brazil, Theater House and an Homage to the Comic.
A total of 46 pavilions will form part of this year’s cultural offering at the XII International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2009 where a wealth of Dominican cultural diversity will be on display.


Eighteen of these pavilions correspond to the General Management of the Book Fair and were designed by the Office of Cultural Infrastructure. The pavilions, beautiful in external design and form, host equally impressive bibliographical and cultural content in each one of them.


 







Pabellón Juan Bosch

Juan Bosch Pavilion
Pays homage to the important writer in the 100 year anniversary of his birth with a large exhibition of his work as well as his personal objects and material of historic value. The exhibition will be on display across from the National Theater and is coordinated by Héctor Luis Martínez.








Pabellón de Brasil

Brasil Pavilion
In honor of the Guest of Honor. An ample variety of Brazilian culture will be on display here. Coordinator: Eva Camilo.








Pabellón de Casa de Teatro

Casa de Teatro Pavilion
Dedication to the popular cultural center on the 35th  anniversary of its foundation. There will be exhibitions and sales of books and CDs in the same festive atmosphere that characterizes the Center’s usual headquarters. Coordinator: Freddy Ginebra.








Pabellón de la Secretaría de Estado de Cultura

Ministry of Culture Pavilion.
A collection of precious books and a variety of cultural exhibitions will be on display here. Coordinator: Ana María Conde.








Pabellón El Autor y su Voz

The Author and His Voice Pavilion.
This has become the most popular pavilion at the Fair. This year there will be new authors’ voices from around the world. A total of 30 computers will allow the visitor to enjoy the voices of their favorite authors beginning with Juan Bosch reading his stories. Coordinator: Héctor Reinoso.








Café Bohemio

Bohemian Café.
The most dynamic space at the fairgrounds. Poetry and short story readings, discussion groups and daily debates on various topics along with singing and lots of delicious brands of coffee. Coordinator: Víctor Víctor.








Pabellón de Autores Dominicanos

Dominican Writers Pavilion.
This is the space where our writers will be presenting their books, reading their poems and stories, catching up with their peers from around the world and enjoying the pleasure of reading and knowledge. Coordinator: Valentín Amaro.








Tribuna Libre

Tribuna Libre Pavilion
The well-known space was created in the first Book Fair back in 1997. It is now a pavilion of its own in the center of the Fair’s main thoroughfare. Every intellectual and culture discipline can be found and discussed here – art, religion, politics, craft work, history – among the various participants showing their work here. Coordinator: Ana Brígida Gómez.








Videoteca Jean Louis Jorge

Jean Louis Jorge Video Screening Room.
This is the traditional place where, for year, visitors come to enjoy videos, documentaries and short films. Now the events are being held in a different place and include an amazing exhibition by the National Film Office (DINAC). Coordinator: Marlon Soto.








Pabellón Libro-Cocina Silvia de Pou

Silvia de Pou Cookbook Pavilion.
The traditional food space that honors the cookbook. This year, best-selling cookbook writer Silvia de Pou will receive the top honor as she shares some of her favorite recipes. Coordinator: Sheila Acevedo.








Pabellón Juvenil

Youth Pavilion.
The youth culture area this year has been totally renovated. Coordinators: Iandra Fermín and Angie Reyes.








Area Infantil

Children’s Area.

The children’s fair has also been totally renovated. The kids have four new pavilions, one of them is air conditioned and called “The Children’s Garden: To Read and Create for Fun.” Coordinators: Evelyn Lima Rivas and Carmen Martínez de Issa.








Pabellón Letras de Ultramar

Letters from Ultramar Pavilion
Dedicated to Dominican writers in the Diaspora. Books, ideas, projects, recognition. Coordinated by: Dominican Cultural Commission in the United States.








Pabellón de La Vega

La Vega Pavilion.
This is the birthplace of Juan Bosch and is the site of the V Regional Book Fair, to be held next September. Coordinator: Orlando Lora.








Área de Artesanía

Artisan Area
A space to promote and encourage this important cultural industry. Coordinator: Luisa Castillo.








Archivo General de la Nación

General Archives of the Nation.
There will be an important historical and bibliographical exhibition here. Have a walk through the new Archives and enjoy its wealth of accumulated knowledge. Coordinator: Roberto Cassá.








Bulevar del Micro-Relato

Short Story Boulevard.
Where last year we opened Love Boulevard, this year we’ve got a special place to honor the short story. Coordinator: Jorge Núñez.


 



Other Pavilions: Independent projects will have their own pavilions just as exquisite and full of interest as the rest. For example, the Office of the First Lady of the Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), the Ministry of the Armed Forces, National Police, Central Electoral Board, Supreme Court of Justice, Dominican Institute of Telecommunications, Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Institute of Technology Santo Domingo (INTEC), National Evangelical University, the O & M, University, the National Customs Office, the Internal Revenue Service, the Office of Community Development, Libre and Listín Newspapers, the National Council on Childhood (CONANI), the Central Bank, the National Lottery, Environment Ministry and among others the huge pavilion of the Ministry of Education including its radio broadcasting service. 


The International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2009, in its twelfth year, is dedicated to Juan Bosch as it is the centenary of his birth. Brazil is this year’s special guest of honor. 


The Book Fair will take place, as in years past, in the Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza beginning on Monday April 20 until Saturday May 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.
