The Dominican Republic Will Show its New Tourism Offerings at FITUR 2010 in Madrid

The Dominican Republic, in its 271-square meter promotional stand, will show off its newest tourism items and specialties in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR in Spanish) to be held in Madrid, Spain from January 20-24.

Mr. García Fernández said Dominican tourism promotion will be focused in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Colombia, Germany, France, Russia, Sweden, the Ukraine, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, the United States, England, Asia and the Dominican Republic.

Tourism Minister, Francisco Javier García, who will be leading the official delegation, said that with the DR’s participation in FITUR, it will be kicking off this year’s 2010 international promotional cycle to encourage tourism to the Dominican Republic. This will involve various activities and participation in 43 international fairs as well as hundreds of road shows in Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and the Dominican Republic, according to the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) Office of Press and Communications.

Mr. García Fernández said Dominican tourism promotion will be focused in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Colombia, Germany, France, Russia, Sweden, the Ukraine, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, the United States, England, Asia and the Dominican Republic.

At this, the 30th year anniversary of FITUR to be held in the Ifema Convention Center in Madrid, García Fernández noted that several other organizations will be participating under the Dominican umbrella and these include ASONAHORES, the VIK Hotels Group, Oasis Hotels & Resort, Viva Wyndham Resort, Hola Tours, Casa de Campo, Fiesta Hotels Group, Intercontinental V Centenario, Holiday Inn Santo Domingo, BTC, Banco Popular and the Cisneros Foundation.

The Tourism Minister explained that FITUR is one of the main tourism fairs in the world in which more than 12,000 international displays represent 170 countries and more than 136,000 professional visitors and over 8,000 reporters attend from around the world.

García Fernández said this international tourism exhibition attracts important groups of tour operators, travel agents, airline companies, wholesalers, service providers, residential tourism and media from around the world.
