President Fernández to Meet on Saturday with Haitian President The Presidents of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Leonel Fernández and René Preval, will hold a meeting on Saturday July 31 in the Owanaminthe community (Juana Méndez) where they will begin an intense work schedule with the Mixed Bilateral Commission and also break ground for the construction of a university which is being financed by the Dominican government. During the meeting, members of the Mixed Bilateral Commission will define the functioning mechanisms… President Fernández and his delegation, comprised of ministers, high level government officials and invited guests, will be received by President Preval. After the meeting between the presidents, Preval will bestow the “National Pan-American Petion and Bolivar Award” upon Fernández in the name of the Haitian government, according to the Presidential Office of Information, Press and Publicity. Following that ceremony, the Dominican-Haitian Mixed Bilateral Commission meeting will begin. The meeting will be presided over by the Dominican Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso and Haitian Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive in their joint capacity as presidents of the Commission. During the meeting, members of the Mixed Bilateral Commission will define the functioning mechanisms and tasks of the technical sub-commissions as well as the future meeting schedule. Following the meeting, Morales Troncoso and Bellerive with sign a joint statement. The activities will continue as Presidents Fernández and Preval travel to the “La Lemonade” community, 15 kilometers from Cape Haiti, where they will attend the groundbreaking for the construction of a university donated by the Dominican government to the Haitian people following the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. Haitian Senator Nelly Bastien, University Rector Vernet Henry and the mayors of La Lemonade and Fort Liberte will also attend the ceremony. | ||
