Winners of René Fernández Almonte Essay Contest Announced Luis Céspedes Peña, José Francisco Madera and Perfecto Martínez were the winners of the René Fernández Almonte essay writing contest sponsored by the Ministry of Culture (MINC) and organized by the Dominican College of Journalism of Santaigo (CDP). This year the theme of the competition was “Journalism’s Contribution to the Economic Development of the City of Santiago (1961-2010)”. The announcement was made by Enegildo Peña, Deputy Minister of Culture for the Northern Region at an event in the Julio Alberto Hernández Hall of the Grand Theater of Cibao. This year the theme of the competition was “Journalism’s Contribution to the Economic Development of the City of Santiago (1961-2010)”. First place prize of 50,000 pesos went to Luis Céspedes Peña; second place prize of 30,000 pesos was won by José Francisco Madera and third place award of 20,000 pesos was given to Perfecto Martínez making the total prize money 100,000 pesos. Juan Alberto Bonilla Martínez and Juan Isidro Inoa Paulino received Honorable Mention. Present at the awards ceremony were Enegildo Peña, Deputy Minister of Culture for the Northern Region; Aurelio Henriquez, National President of the Dominican College of Journalism and Ramón Paulino, Secretary General of the Sectional of Santiago College of Journalism. Members of the jury were Edwin Espinal, Enmanuel Castillo and Domingo Caba, among others. In the end, the Ministry of Culture committed to publish all the essays of the winners of this important contest that has been going for the past 13 years under the auspices of the Santiago Sectional of the College of Journalism. | ||
