Protection Center Opens for Ozama Wetlands The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Command Center of the Navy together opened the Center for the Protection and Security of the Navy´s Forest, located in the Ozama Wetlands, municipality of Santo Domingo East. The Environment Minister indicated that, under orders from President Leonel Fernández and the unwavering enthusiasm of Vice Admiral Cabrera Arias, the Navy has been made responsible for the new Center for the Protection and Security of the Navy´s Forest. The opening ceremony was led by Environment Minister, Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, and Navy Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral Nicolás Cabrera Arias. Mr. Fernández Mirabal stressed the role played by the Navy in the defense of national sovereignty by assuring that today, more than ever, the nation´s safety has a direct relationship with the protection of the environment and natural resources. The Environment Minister indicated that, under orders from President Leonel Fernández and the unwavering enthusiasm of Vice Admiral Cabrera Arias, the Navy has been made responsible for the new Center for the Protection and Security of the Navy´s Forest. Navy Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral Nicolás Cabrera Arias, for his part, thanked the Environment Minister for trusting the Navy with the important administrative responsibility for the Center for the Protection and Security of the Navy´s Forest. The Navy will provide forest rangers, guards and members in their task of taking care of forest area and the wetlands.
