The opening in the Dominican Republicof the International Poetry Festival “Woman’ Scream” under the slogan ¡La mujer vive! is approaching. Poets and artists from the Eastern part of the country (La Romana, Higüey, Hato Mayor, etc.), Santo Domingo, Santiago, and from the United States, among other countries, will all unite in solidarity to pay tribute to women and to add their voices to the thousands of our silent Dominican womenwho live subjugated because of abuse. Woman’ Scream has taken place successfully in cities of various countries around the world and in several languages. This year’s event has a schedule that will includesome 90 events taking place in 30 countries, all throughout the month of March, 2012.

Its official closing ceremony will be held in the Dominican Republic, in the city of San Pedro de Macorís, under the sponsorship of the Municipal Council, the Women Poets International Movement (MPI for its acronym in Spanish), which isled by the Dominican writer Jael Uribe, the “Maria la O” Cultural Center, and the “Francisco Dominguez Charro” Literary Group,both under the direction of writer Ana Teresa Martinez. It is anticipated that the event will start promptly at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st, 2012,at the Casino Puertorriqueño, located on AvenidaIndependence #50 in San Pedro de Macorís.


“We are fed up with violence, which is the reason why during the month of March, in the Dominican Republic, we will be celebrating life,” said Jael Uribe, who, since 2009, has successfully led the movement that seeks to raise awareness about the talent of Spanish-speaking poets through the use of digital media. The main objective of the movement is to provide them with technological tools that will assist these worthy representatives of the liberal arts in the promotion of theirworks, as well as in the development of their leadership and organizationalrolesthrough the social mission they carry out via the “Woman’ Scream” international festivals,where many of theirfollowers and associates become known, while a message against violenceis also transmitted.
