The painting exhibition, “Mujeres: Gestación de Valores” (Women: Gestation of Values) was inspired by the values campaign known as “Bien por ti” (Good for you), according to painter Alma Vásquez. The exhibition is comprised of 17 paintings of various techniques.

It makes me feel that I must transmit these messages through my work and show that art is not only beauty or interesting to look at, but that it also can carry a message to the viewer who can make it their own and use it to change the world,” …


Dominican painter Alma Vásquez is exhibiting her most recent work at the Children´s Library of the Dominican Republic (BIJRD in Spanish). The collection is called,  “Mujeres: Gestación de Valores.”.


The 17 paintings, done in mixed techniques, range in size from 30” x 40”, 40” x 60” and 33” x 54” and are characterized by the importance of their message of values in the construction and development of each and every human being and the role that women play in the transference of each one of her offspring.

Love, family unity, tenderness, loyalty, comprehension, honesty, knowledge, ethics,  tolerance, respect, justice, peace and solidarity are some of the topics touched on by Alma Vásquez in the exhibition, “Mujeres: gestación de valores.”

Ms. Vásquez thanked Margarita Cedeño de Fernández for having inspired her through the First Lady’s campaign, “Bien por ti” and the special events held on the Day of Art for Values, initiated by the Office of the First Lady (DPD in Spanish).

At the opening of the painting exhibition, Vásquez was accompanied by Teresa Peralta, director of the BIJRD; DPD officials Sagíe Roedán and Leo Batista and the journalist, Rosa Francia Esquea.

“Mujeres: Gestación de Valores” will be open to the public in the exhibition hall of the   BIJRD until March 31st.


About the Artist


Alma Vásquez was born in Salcedo, Dominican Republic. She studied Fashion Design at the School of Design in Altos de Chavón, La Romana. Currently, she is a final-year student in a Painting degree program. She received Mention in Painting at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). She worked as a teacher at the Learning Center for Music.


In 2007, she opened the “Alma Vásquez Art Workshop,” her own space where she teaches painting to children, young people and adults.
