Academy presents The Language of the Dominican Constitution written by Dominican academician and lawyer Fabio Guzmán Ariza The Dominican Academy of Languageis a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, which was founded on October 12, 1927. The cultural event will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at six o’clock in the afternoon, at our Corporation headquarters located on Calle Mercedes No.204, in the Colonial City. With the launching of the book The Language of the Dominican Constitution, by corresponding Dominican academician and lawyer, Don Fabio J. Guzmán Ariza, the Dominican Academy of Language lives up to its slogan “Language is the homeland,” as well as its commitment to ensuring the promotion and dissemination of the proper use of the Spanish language. The cultural event will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at six o’clock in the afternoon, at our Corporation headquarters located on Calle Mercedes No.204, in the Colonial City. The Language of the Dominican Constitution will be presented by Dr. Bruno Rosario Candelier, Director of the Academy, and María José Rincón, a full member of the Corporation of Academicians. Fabio J. Guzmán Ariza was born in 1949 in San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic and lives in Santiago de los Caballeros. He studied primary school in his native city and received his secondary education at the St. Andrew’s College in Aurora, Ontario, Canada. He graduated with a B.A. in Sciences and Humanities from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and with a law degree, summa cum laude, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. He has taught in the Department of Foreign Languages ??at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, and has been Professor of Civil Law and of Legal Text Translation at Universidad Católica Nordestana, and Dean of the Faculty of Legal Sciences at the same University. He has served asjudge in the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Bar Association of the Dominican Republic. He currently chairs the law firm Guzmán Ariza, the first in the Dominican Republic with national coverage, with offices in Santo Domingo, San Francisco de Macorís, Sosúa, Cabrera, Las Terrenas, Samaná, La Romana and Bávaro (Punta Cana). He is also Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Judicial Gazette, the quintessential legal journal of the Dominican Republic, and Director of its Department of Publications. He is a passionate defender of the Spanish language, and since 2007 publishesa linguistic column titled “Our language”in the Judicial Gazette. In the Dominican Academy of Language, he is part of the Spelling Commission and of the Lexical Research Team. He is the founder and President of the Guzmán Ariza Foundation Pro Dominican Academy of Language.
