Carnavalia is the name of the collection of oil paintingsto be presented atNovocentroand the Ureña Rib Foundation on Tuesday February 19th at 7:30 pm.


Carnavalia emphasizes the festive aspects and ethnic, social and cultural mix of the different Dominican carnivals.The artist said, “the bodies melt into a human river of vertiginous tropical rhythms in which the presence of a female is the central theme of my paintings as a symbolic element of the masks.”


According to the painter, who lives in Berlin, “the exhibition brings together experiences at the Dominican Carnival and trips around the world. The festive spirit, uninhibited and easygoing as shown in these pieces, where the tendency is for people to hide their identity, their face, but show their bodies with a mixture of sensuality and fantasy.”


Thecollection is part of the cultural cycles being presented by Novocentrounder the direction of art critic GamalMichelén. In addition, Patrick UreñaSpahn, vice president of the Ureña Rib Foundation said the collection will remain open to the public, free of charge, on the second floor of the Novocentrocommercial center starting on February 19th and will be open in the afternoons until the end of the month.


Although parts of this painting collection have been seen separately in shows in Lisbon, Berlin and Bolzano, Italy, this is the first time they are being shown together to the Dominican public.

Patrick Ureñasaid Ureña Rib’s oil paintings and books of short stories will be available during the show. He is also well-known as a writer of short stories, including: Urban Myths, The Devil’s Four Feet, Basket of Dreams, Berlin Texts and the Forest of the Misunderstood.
