“Geometry of Shadows” by Radhamés Mejía on Display at the Museum of Modern Art

The Ministry of Culture, in coordination with the Museum of Modern Art, will inaugurate RadhamésMejía’s “Geometry of Shadows” on Thursday February 28 at 7:00 pm on the Museum’s second floor.

The Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic is on Pedro HenríquezUreña Ave in the Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Painter and sculptor, RadhamésMejía, in discussing this series of paintings said: “Bodies or the Geometry of Shadows is a project that grew out of my pictorial work and experience at the Painted Bodies workshop given by photographer Roberto Edwards in Santiago, Chile. The exhibition is an homage to the pre-Colombian Taino culture, which is the major source of inspiration for my work whether I’m painting figures on canvas or leather.”

Mr. Mejíawas born in Santo Domingo in 1960. He studied at the School of Fine Arts and later the ExoleNacionalSupérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.  He has lived and worked in Paris since 1985.

Considered one of the greatest Dominican painters of all times, Mejía’s individual shows have been seen in French galleries such as: Arte del Aeropuerto de Paris (OrlySouth); WM, Lyon; Demanie-Fardel, Sanary-sur-Mer, Fardel, Le Touquet, Espace Eiffel-Branly, among others. He has also shown in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the United States, Panama, Taiwan, Belgium,  Venezuela, Peru, Canada, Japan and the Dominican Republic.

It is also worth noting that among his recognitions, he won first prize in the XV Painting Biennial in the Dominican Republic and first prize for drawing in the E. León Jimenes competition. These distinctions are among the many he has received in France as well as our country.
