“Obeliscos en Carnaval” will be held this Friday at the capital’s water front This Friday morning, performance workers and technicians were putting together the carnival eventknown as”Obeliscos en Carnaval,” which will be held this afternoon and evening at the capital’s boardwalk. The event will take place between the “Obeliscos macho (male Obelisks)” and “Obeliscos hembra (female Obelisks)”, two iconic monuments located on Avenida George Washington, some 100 meters from the Caribbean coastline, in the capital of the Dominican Republic. The event, which is being organized by the Ministry of Culture’s Directorate of Carnival Management, also includes the Second National Festival of Ali-bandas. The Ministry of Culture, through its Directorate of Communications and Audiovisual Media, hasurged those who live in the capital city to participate in thispopular festival, as well as in the Children’s Carnival that will take place on Saturday and in the National Carnival Parade that is scheduled for Sunday. The parade will be led by Milly Quezada and Fernando Villalona, the Queen and the King of the Carnival, respectively. The event will take place between the “Obeliscos macho (male Obelisks)” and “Obeliscos hembra (female Obelisks)”, two iconic monuments located on Avenida George Washington, some 100 meters from the Caribbean coastline, in the capital of the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, the National Festival of Ali-bandas will take placein the Plaza Juan Barón.Both events will startat 6:30 pm. This time,12 bands of snare drumswill participate. The bands are made of young Carnival attendeeswhose music will delight and give rhythm to the various Ali-bandas. This carnival will also recognize two great personalities of this genre, Domingo Velásquez Ramírez (Pichilo) and Luis Emilio Valdez Medina. |
