The Rotary International organization conferred its highest award to the founder of the Batey Relief Alliance Dominicana

The Rotary Club of New York, representing the Rotary International organization before the United Nations, conferred its prestigious Paul Harris award to the founder of the humanitarian organization Batey Relief Alliance Dominicana, Dr. Ulrick Gaillard,on Monday, April 29, 2013. Dr. Gaillard was the second Dominican personality, after Dominican investigative journalist Nuria Piera, to receive this important award for his work on behalf of the most vulnerable people in the Dominican Republic.

Batey Relief Alliance Dominicana has raised more than US$70 million to install modern medical centers; develop programs for food security and agriculture, women empowerment, microcredit, maternal and child health, water and sanitation, and education and disaster relief; and to provide services to more than 100,000 people every year.

Gaillard has a Juris Doctor degree and professional experience in political science and government, and has completed his studies in International Leadership at Harvard University. After collaborating in 2005 with the Clinton Foundation’sHIV-AIDS Initiative to develop the first comprehensive antiretroviral treatment for people living with HIV-AIDS and Tuberculosis in the bateyes, in 2011 President Bill Clinton invited Dr. Gaillard to become a member of his international organization, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).

Through partnerships with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Dominican government and the international aid groups, Batey Relief Alliance Dominicana has raised more than US$70 million to install modern medical centers; develop programs for food security and agriculture, women empowerment, microcredit, maternal and child health, water and sanitation, and education and disaster relief; and to provide services to more than 100,000 people every year. In 2010, the organization expanded its work to the border regions with Haiti.
