The OSNJ will perform the first Dominican Symphony T he Ministry of Culture and the National Youth Symphony Orchestra (OSNJ for its acronym in Spanish), once again are getting ready during the 2013 Concert Season, with the purpose of promoting the Dominican music with the Gala “Quisqueyana Symphony,” which will be performed on July 9 at the Palace of Fine Arts. The concert’s main attraction will be the revival of the first Dominican symphony of Juan Francisco García, a Santiago composer, and the first symphony to be written in the country in 1935. Other invited soloists include cellist Allyson Pérez, trombonist Julio Peña and violinist Josefina Guzmán, all members of the OSNJ. “It is an honor to lead this Gala Concert where we perform the first Dominican symphony composed by Juan Francisco García, one of our leading composers, who created this brilliant work with Dominican folk and popular music, such as merengue, country tunes, serenades, folk songs, and so on,” explained Maestro Darwin Aquino, Director of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra. The concert, scheduled for July 9, is being organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Vice Ministry of Creativity and Popular Participation and the Youth Symphony Orchestra Foundation. The concert will begin its performance with A. Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dance Op 46 No. 8 in G Minor;” L. V. Beethoven’s “Romance in F Major Op. 50 for Violin and Orchestra;” F. David’s “Concertino for Trombone and Orchestra Op. 4,” 1st movement; E. Lalo’s “Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in D Minor,” 1st movement, and J. F. Garcia’s “Quisqueyana Symphony” (1935). Maestro Aquino will accompanied by Fernando Herrera, Associate Director of the OSNJ and Rogers Peralta, young Assistant Director. With this concert, the OSNJ insists on keeping alive its historic commitment to the creation, dissemination and development of Dominican musical talent. The concert is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, at 8:30 pm, in the main hall of the Palace of Fine Arts.
