Ministry of Culture offers workshop on Cultural Management in Hato Mayor del Rey

A s part of the events taking place for the decentralization of cultural activities, the Ministry of Culture (MINC), through the Directorate General of Education and Training and the National Directorate of Provinces, is sponsoring the workshop “Cultural Management, Local Development Agenda.”

The aim of this workshop is to foster and stimulate cultural management from a variety of public and private perspectives, as well as from for- and not-for-profit organizations, to boost the social aspect from the cultural sector.

This training workshop, which was also attended by Alfredo Castillo, Northern Regional Director of the General Directorate of Provinces, was led by Ángel Taveras and Deqni Vázquez. The discussion included issues ranging from the scope and importance of cultural management, to sthe role of the cultural manager with respect to local development, the professionalization of the cultural manager, cultural projects and conflict management in the community environment, among others.

It is worth noting the participation of art education teachers from the Educational District in the area, the Ministry of Education, employees of the Municipal Council of Hato Mayor del Rey, and a delegation of cultural managers from the El Seybo, who expressed their interest for the Ministry to expand the training activities to other cultural managers in the various communities in the region.

Rosa Rodríguez, Director General for Education and Training, informed about MINC’s call for the presentation of the 2013 Regional Cultural Projects, in order to build a program for the implementation of projects to foster cultural development from the local level.

The workshop, held at the Regional University Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (CURAMA – Centro Universitario Regional de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo), was coordinated locally by Wendy Jaquez and Heriberto Ramírez, Provincial Directors of Culture of Hato Mayor and El Seybo, respectively, and it was co-sponsored by the governments of those provinces.
