Góngora: The eternal star, will debut at the Blue Mall The work of Luis de Góngora (1561 – 1627) is one of the most valuable poetry assets of the Hispanic tradition and an unavoidable benchmark in the history of literature. For his exceptional aesthetic magnitude, for its tireless and innovative character and for its relevance in our time, the poetry of don Luis can be compared with Shakespeare’s contributions to the theater or those of Cervantes to novel. This exhibition, which invites us to appreciate the excellence of a poet who is difficult to understand, is presented as part of the celebration of The Weeks of Spain in the Dominican Republic. To this end, the literary, historical and social contexts that determined his life trajectory have been reconstructed; then, the printed manuscripts and printed documents containing his works are being presented, as well as other seventeenth-century documents that demonstrate his fruitful influence; also illustrated are the pastoral and hunting and musical topics that nurtured his poetry, and a continuous dialogue has been established between his great works (Polyphemus and Galatea, Soledades, Pyramus and Thisbe) and other artistic expressions. This event has been organized by the Spanish Cultural Action (AC/E – Acción Cultural Española), in collaboration with the National Library of Spain. The activity is sponsored by the Cultural Center of Spain in Santo Domingo in the framework of The Weeks of Spain. It will be available to the public on the 5th floor of the Blue Mall until October 31st.
