Esther Hernández Medina Stresses the Importance of Tax Advisors and Accountants in the New DGII Strategic Plan

The Assistant Director of Planning and Development of the Internal Revenue Service, Esther Hernández Medina, highlighted the leading role of tax advisors, accountants, and other professionals of the agency in the implementation of the new DGII Strategic Plan. The main goal of the Strategic Plan is to bring closer the tax administration and the taxpayer.

Hernández Medina was the keynote speaker at the opening of the V International Congress on Taxation CIET 2013 with her presentation “La Administración Tributaria al Servicio de los Contribuyentes: Plan Estratégico DGII 2014-2017 (The Tax Administration Serving the Taxpayers: DGII Strategic Plan 2014-2017)”.

“We are building a cathedral, and we work to make sure that everyone is certain about the importance of their work. This last part seems way too general, perhaps something like a cathedral that generates revenue for the country’s development and everybody in the agency has a role to play, regardless of their position or profession,” she said. Those words served to illustrate that the entire DGII staff is committed to continue working to make the necessary advances to position the tax administration as the best in Latin America.

The official provided a broad overview of the implications of the new DGII strategic plan, emphasizing that the projects to be developed in the immediate future will lead the DGII to become the taxpayers’ main advisory body while ensuring an excellent service.

The V International Congress on Taxation CIET 2013, which was held at a hotel in the capital city, was organized by the Dominican Republic Tax Association (ATRIRD). The event took place last week and included several panels and conferences, among which a presentation by Wanda Montero, Head of the Department of Transfer Pricing stood out. She discussed the legislative reform promoted by the country on that subject.
