Ministry of Culture will open the XIV edition of the Emilio Aparicio Amateur Theater Festival on Tuesday To commemorate the National Day of the Dominican Theater, the Ministry of Culture, through the National Theater System, will open the XIV edition of the Emilio Aparicio Amateur Theater Festival, on Tuesday, March12. The opening will include 3 theater companies from the capital and the provinces. The opening ceremony of the event, which also marks the International Day of Theater, will take place in the Monina Sola Hall of the Narciso González Cultural Center, at 7:00 pm, with the staging of the play “Escalera para Electra” (Stairway for Electra), by renowned Dominican writer Aída Cartagena Portalatín. The content of the play will be covered by prominent Dominican actress Charlotte Carter, through the direction of the Traveling Theater troupe. Referring to the importance of the festival, Basilio Nova, director and producer of the aforementioned event, said that it is a great honor that the Minister of Culture, singer and songwriter José Antonio Rodríguez, has decided to keep the organization under the direction of the National Theater. As in previous years, the top-winning troupes will have a chance to win RD$75,000, RD$50,000 and RD$25,000, respectively. Performances are scheduled Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The cost of entrance is RD$25.00 and RD$50.00 per person. Among the groups participating in the festival are: Trípode Theater Foundation, Dalixdes Theater, Otoño Theater School, UCATESIANO Theater, O&M Theater, UASD Theater, of Valverde Mao; Children’s Theater, Mauricio Báez Foundation, Nuevos Horizontes Theater, Alpha Theater Ministry, AMADEUS Theater, Salcedo Theater, La Recua and Néctar Theater. Also, Camaléon Theater, Iván García Youth Theater School, Puppet Theater of the National School of Dramatic Art, Group Seven, Theatrical Space, Theater of the School of Fine Arts of Moca, Southern Theater, Free Theater and Víveres Theater, among other troupes. The actor and theater director emphasized that the Emilio Aparicio Amateur Theater Festival is the only space where non-professional theater troupes from around the country can project and promote their talent and creativity on stage. In reference to the International Theater Day, he explained that it was established in 1961 by the International Theater Institute ITI-UNESCO.
