Historian and lawyer Miguel de Camps Jiménez is recognized for his outstanding career during the dedication of streets at the FILRD2014 A great work focused on promoting and strengthening the book as the main cultural and intellectual tool. Writer, historian, journalist and lawyer, was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and the General Directorate of the XVII International Book Fair 2014, this Thursday morning, for his valuable contributions to the Dominican culture. The ceremony took place in the street in front of the stand of Librería Susaeta and the Pavilion of Dominican Authors, entering through Avenida César Nicolás Penson, in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte. The event was chaired by songwriter and singer José Antonio Rodríguez, Minister of Culture; Valentín Amaro, Director of Books and Reading; Pedro Antonio Valdez, Executive Director of the FILRD14, and officials from the Ministry of Culture. Also participated in the event: the Coordinator of the Streets’ Dedication program, Luis Teófilo Terrero, as well as family and friends of the honoree. Young Emmanuel Díaz Santiago, member of the Hector Incháustegui Cabral Literary Workshop, was responsible for the biographical profile of the honoree. De Camps is the founder of Editora Manatee. He earned a master’s degree in graphic arts and another master’s degree in Dominican and Caribbean history. He is the author of important books, one of which is “Para comprender el Himno Nacional Dominicano” (To understand the Dominican National Anthem), in which he deeply analyzes the patriotic values ??of our country. He is the author of “El criollo Antonio Sánchez Valverde, su época, su vida y su obra” (Creole Antonio Sánchez Valverde, his time, his life and work), which, just a few months after its publication, has become a best-selling book, because it examines the nationalism of our island. He was President of the Dominican Association of Graphic and Related Industries. He is one of the most trained and prestigious Dominican publishers. His works have great patriotic content and he is a representative figure within the literary class of the Dominican Republic. In his speech, Dr. Miguel de Camps Jiménez publicly thanked José Antonio Rodríguez, Minister of Culture; the authorities of the Ministry of Culture, and the organizers of the FILRD14, because of the substantial changes that have been made to the FILRD14, which are clearly noticed, and have improved the quality of this important cultural event. In addition, he said that: “This is a very serious commitment; to give a street my name makes me more committed to work and support all the actions that are necessary in order to promote the book and the FILRD”. The following persons were among the attendees: Diomedes Núñez Polanco, Director of the Dr. Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library; Julia Castillo, Director of the Perelló Cultural Center; writers Eleanor Grimaldi, Luís R. Santos, Rafael Peralta Romero, and other personalities. Historian Miguel de Camps is the seventh person to be recognized in this program of Dedication day and streets at the FILRD14. Tomorrow, Friday, May 2, will be dedicated to prominent writer Eleanor Grimaldi Silié.
