“National Seminar on Copyright and Related Rights” Will Be Held in the DR The event, to be held on May 19-20, is sponsored by the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Ministry of Culture, and the National Copyright Office. The Ministry of Culture, the National Copyright Office (ONDA), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) announced the “National Seminar on Copyright and Related Rights”, with the participation of national and international speakers. The meeting, to be held on May 19-20 at the Telecommunications Cultural Center, will bring to the Dominican Republic the most renowned experts in the field. They will address various issues related to copyright in the country and throughout the world. The seminar program will address ten issues, among them: “Key Issues of Copyright and Related Rights in the Dominican Republic”, by Dr. Marino Feliz Terrero, Director of ONDA; and “IP Strategy in the Dominican Republic”, by Josefina Aquino, Director of the Intellectual Property Academy of the Dominican Republic. Additionally, “Comments to the Dominican Republic’s Copyright Act and Related Rights”, by Carmen E. Chevalier, J.D., a lawyer specializing in the subject; and “Economic Contribution to National Economies of Businesses Based on Copyrights”, a dissertation by Mexican Economist Ernesto Piedras. The subject “Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights. Tropology”, will be presented by speakers Víctor Drummond, Legal and Development President of Latín Artis, and Gabriel Salcedo, Representative of the Association of Rights Management of Audiovisual Producers (EGEDA) of Argentina. The subject “Ongoing Initiative on Copyright and Related Rights within WIPO” will be presented by Lorena Bolaños, Program Manager; and “The International Protection of Copyright and Related Rights. The Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances”, will be addressed by speakers Víctor Drummond and Gabriela Salcedo, representatives of the Association of Rights Management of Audiovisual Producers (EGEDA) of Argentina. The following themes will also be addressed: “Copyright and the New Technologies: Challenges and Opportunities”, by Wilson Rafael Ríos; and “The Creative Economy in Latin America”, by Ernesto Piedras, a Mexican Economist. The seminar will conclude with an exchange of questions and answers. |
