Cinema Gala Premier and Forum Will Take Place at the MAM The Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of the United States, the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) and the General Directorate of Cinema will organize the “Foro Cine Latinoamericano: Necesidades, Apreciación y Visualización” (Latin American Cinema Forum: Needs, Assessment and Display). The forum will be held on Thursday, June 26th, at 7:00 pm in the MAM Auditorium. Filmmakers Félix Germán, Director General of Fine Arts, and Jorge Oliver Film Director at the Pratt Institute of New York, will participate in the forum and will share their appreciation on the Latin American cinema. The Gala Premier Documentary “Free to Love” will take place on Friday, June 27th, at 7:00 pm in the MAM Auditorium. This documentary, directed by Jorge Oliver, is keen in exposing events surrounding a movement that fought to stay a discriminatory amendment initiative in the Puerto Rican Constitution. Jorge Oliver was born in Puerto Rico and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Zoology from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. His passion for cinematography and film lead him in later years to pursue a Master’s degree in Communications from the New School University (Parsons), in New York. Jorge Oliver has produced and edited a total of 13 short films. He has also worked as a director of photography and camera operator for important films and documentaries, including Out in the Open, De Colores, Pegasus, and One Hundred Eggs a Minute. His films have been screened at various film festivals in the United States and across the world. Some of these festivals include the International Film Festival of Cork in Ireland, the New Latin-American Film Festival in Habana, and the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile. Both the Cinema Gala Premier and Forum are open to the public in the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, which is located at Av. Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, in Santo Domingo.
