The Ministry of Culture Informs that 260 Troupes will Participate in the National Carnival Parade 2015

The Ministry of Culture (MINC), through the Office of Cultural Management and Carnival, has announced the classification and chronological order of the 260 troupes and characters that will participate in the traditional National Carnival Parade 2015, to be held on Sunday, March 1st, starting at 2:00 pm.


Specially dedicated to children, the Children’s Parade is scheduled for 10:00 am.


The Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, urged people to participate in the parade in strong numbers and in an orderly fashion, noting that it is an authentic example of the creativity of the Dominican people.


It was reported that, as in previous editions of the traditional parade, there will be performances by the traditional ensembles from the National District, among which he mentioned: Los Diablos Cojuelos, the Róbalagallina character, El Tiznao and Alí Babá, as well as the traditional troupes called Los Indios de Quisqueya, Los Africanos, El Califé, and La Muerte en Yipe.


The details were offered by Cultural Manager Ramón Lachapelle, Director General of the Office of Cultural Management and Carnival, who also reported that over 95 percent of the floats, troupes and characters have already confirmed their participation.


As examples, Lachapelle named: Los joyeros, Pepines y Lechones from Santiago; Los Macaraos from Salcedo, and Las Cachúas from Cabral; Los Diablos from La Vega; the Robalagallina character from Baní; and, Los Taimáscaros from Puerto Plata, both winners of the Felipe Abreu award.


Also present will be the Guloyas from San Pedro de Macorís; Los Macaraos from Bonao; and, Los Indios from Azúa. In addition, the fantasy and traditional categories have also been included.


In the children’s category, of which Huguito Chávez Baldera is the king and La Tía Nancy is the queen, the participation of the following troupes was agreed: Los diablos cojuelos, Los Pitufos, Alí-Babá, Robalagallina, Califé, Los Tiznaos, Los Guloyistas de San Pedro de Macorís, and Los Herederos de los Pintaos, among other ensembles.


The Jury
The group of judges will be presided over by percussionist and folk musician Edis Sánchez, Coordinator; Luisa Mateo Dicló, President; and supported by the following members: Carlos Andújar Persinal, Manuel Guillén, Julia Castillo, Marcos Caminero, Julio Encarnación, Gladys Martínez, Josué Gómez, Altagracia Fernández, Bolívar Troncoso, Cruz María Dotel, Manuel Jiménez, Virginia Roca, Francisco Medina, Víctor Piñeyro and Víctor Ávila.
