Yazmery Dessireé Arias Soto, a member of the Narciso González Cultural Center Choir, won second place; and the third place was awarded to Nicole Ramírez, from Colegio San José Patrocinio.

This first edition of the competition, in which the winners received certificates of participation, began with an invocation to the Almighty, which was followed by the National Anthem.

Mr. Luis Amauris De los Santos, Director of the Narciso González Cultural Center, the organization coordinating the event, delivered a moving welcoming speech to the participating children and their families.

In his speech, De los Santos stressed the importance of the first competition, which is part of the cultural programming launched by the Ministry of Culture; and added that this is an initiative that is having an impact on training children and youth to think positively. Likewise, he highlighted the support received from the Presidency of the Republic, as well as the attendance of the family and friends of the participating students.

The following soloists received honorable mentions: Alfa Omega, from Colegio Santiago Apóstol; Elaidne Michel, from Colegio Hogar del Niño, and Carla Casado, from the Narciso González Cultural Center.

From the beginning to the end of the competition, which was completed in six rounds, the audience enjoyed the spectacular performance of the 250 participating students aged 6 to 13.

The jury was made of music and singing teachers Simón César and Martha Julia Fernández, who took into account the talent, performance and interpretative ability of the participants during the event.

The participants, including children and youth, offered an outstanding performance on behalf of Colegio Club XII Juegos, Santiago Apóstol, Hogar del Niño and San José Patrocinio, located in the Villa Juana, Villas Agrícolas and Los Paleros del Km 13 of the Duarte Highway sectors.

Prior to the celebration of the children’s event, there was a long day of workshops on acting, music and singing, under the direction and coordination of Cuban teachers Ana María Barrera and Eddy Ochoa, which resulted in the creation of seven choirs representing the schools. The artistic event was a resounding success. Its objective is to promote artistic groups in schools and to motivate and attract children with talent in the fields of singing, acting and other cultural expressions.

Likewise, another fundamental purpose that was emphasized is to motivate the students to show passion and interest for interpreting children and thematic songs making reference to patriotic and human values and to nature. The children artistic evening concluded with the farewell remarks by Mr. Antonio Díaz, Director of Colegio Club XII Juegos. Then, the choirs and soloists joined their voices and sang the song titled “Los niños cantan al mundo” (The children sing to the world), under the direction of Cuban teachers Ana María Barrera and Eddy Ochoa.
