With the objective of strengthening the “area’s ecosystem,” more than 30 volunteers participated in a day of reforestation in an area covering three kilometers of the Sendero Ecoturístico Padre Nuestro, located in the Parque Nacional del Este, in the tourist area of La Romana.

The event, which concluded with great success, was organized by the Energy Consortium of Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM), the Association of Hotels of La Romana-Bayahibe (AHRB) and the Tourism Cluster of La Romana-Bayahibe (CTRB). It took place on Saturday, September 12, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

During the event, volunteers planted more than 300 Cedar, native Mahogany and Dove Heart trees, among others, as they fit the characteristics of the area and of the land on which the Sendero Ecoturístico Padre Nuestro is located.

“The objective of this activity is to reforest the area, so that the ecosystem can be strengthened, thus contributing to the environment and the sustainable development of this tourist destination,” said Ana García-Sotoca, Executive Director of the AHRB and CTRB.

The logistics of the event were covered by the Punta Cana-Macao Energy Consortium and the Association of Hotels of La Romana-Bayahibe, in coordination with community organizations located around Padre Nuestro. García-Sotoca thanked all the volunteers who contributed to this event of planting and reforestation, along with the local communities that participated and which are concerned about ensuring the environmental health and the sustainable development of the La Romana-Bayahibe destination.

“On behalf of the Association of Hotels we thank all for participating in this event, in which we have planted more than 300 trees, and especially to CEPM and its team of volunteers for such an important initiative,” she said.

This event is part of the environmental program that AHRB, together with the Cluster and other partners, implements every year to contribute to the preservation of the area’s environment, one of the key aspects for the success of the sustainable development of the La Romana-Bayahibe destination.

“Since our inception in the year 2000, the Association of Hotels of La Romana-Bayahibe has maintained its firm commitment to seeking the sustainable development of the tourist area, to observing environmentally friendly practices during hotel operations, preserving natural resources and implementing social programs that benefit the neighboring communities,” she said.
