Dominican College of Plastic Artists (CODAP) Will Hold Panel Discussion with Dominican Plastic Artist Oscar Abreu

Santo Domingo, May 21, 2018 – The Dominican College of Plastic Artists will hold a panel discussion with renowned Dominican plastic artist Oscar Abreu who will discuss  the challenges faced by and the opportunities a local artist should use to position him/herself in the international world of art.

The panel discussion – titled “Strategies and Challenges Faced by Dominican Artists in the International Art World” – will take place on May 24, at 7:00 p.m. at the calle el Conde No.58. Zona Colonial.  One of Abreu’s most important agenda items will be to discuss the factors that influence the artist’s positioning in the international circuit, and what strategies to implement to penetrate the international art world.

CODAP President, Freddy Javier, encourages all artists to attend the panel discussion so that, along with Oscar Abreu “we can explore the different possibilities and strategies available to artists on this issue.”

“It is very important that we as artists work with clear guidelines and understand that the times have changed, and that the art industry demands more commitment, innovation and dedication than ever before.  We need to understand the international market and how to implement strategies that will benefit us,” explained Abreu, who has organized 33 exhibits in various countries.

In 2015 Abreu was the special guest of the Miami River Art Fair, a special art fair held during Miami’s Art week.  He was the only Dominican artist to be distinguished with this very special honor.  Director Torres highlighted that “Abreu is a true revolutionary of Latin American art.”

In 2006 artist Abreu – through the Alianza Art Gallery – sponsored an art exhibit of famed Dominican painter Guillo Pérez in the floating gardens at Rockefeller Center.

Abreu recently participated in the program “Jueves de contenido” (Thursday’s Contents), a television program which airs on Channel 12, Teleradio America, hosted by the president of the Association of Art Critics architect Gamal Michelin, where he shared personal and challenging experiences as an artist.

At the same time, during the recently held International Book Fair 2018, in Santo Domingo, the book “Oscar Abreu: Memoirs of a Psycho-Expressionist,” written by Abil Peralta Agüero on the life and works of the artist.

In that same context, and with the support of the Ministry of Education, Abreu painted a mural highlighting the importance of education.  The head of the Ministry’s Cultural Section, Rafael García Romero, also discussed the artistic trajectory of Abreu.
