Santiago, February 5, 2020 – Professional Dominican chef Rosa María Gómez, known in the local gastronomic scene as “La Chefa,” recently announced a special event titled “Good Food During Dominican Carnival.” The idea is inspired by the traditions of the Dominican carnival and its colorful characters.
The Dominican carnival is a popular expression of local culture and customs. One of the event’s principal characteristics will be to highlight some of the traditional figures that accompany the local festival tradition since the time of the Spanish colony.
The King Memo, the local Devils, the Chicken Thief, the Indians, among other characters – depending on the region of the country – are some of the special characters that set Dominican carnival activities apart from the rest of the Caribbean during the month of February. “La Chefa” has understood those local Carnival traditions and has created creative and very tasty dishes in honor of these popular characters.
Good Food During the Carnival is based on an eight-course dinner that includes, among other treats, a welcome drink, various entrees, salad, main dish, sherbet and dessert.
Each dish represents one or various characters of the Dominican festival tradition. Each dish will be presented by “La Chefa” to invited guests.
The special Carnival dinners are scheduled for February 14, 21 and 28 in “El Meson de la Chefa,” in Santiago – the country’s second largest city – as well as in restaurants and other gastronomic events scheduled around the country. For more information, please write to reservaslachefa@gmail.com.
