Santo Domingo, September 19, 2018 – The Dominican Ministry of Culture announced the winner of the International Theater Festival poster contest, and presented the poster that will be used to advertise the annual event that this year will be held between December 6 through16 of this year.
Artist José Luis Jiménez – who participated with the pseudonym “Cachipa” – won the first place award, which comes with a cash award of approximately one thousand dollars and a certificate of recognition.
Overall, 14 entries were submitted. The jury stated that the majority of the works submitted were of an excellent quality.
Willy Ezequiel Abreu de la Cruz, who submitted his proposal as “Degas,” received an honorary mention and the jury proposed that his poster be chosen to advertise next year’s Theater Festival. Another honorary mention was awarded to Williams Alexander Vásquez Díaz – who presented his proposal under the pseudonym “The Kazador”. Both artists will receive certificates of recognition.
Jury members took into account the visual, composition, lettering and conceptual quality of the entries submitted. All entries complied with the contest rules issued by Festival organizers.
Jury members were art critics Marianne de Tolentino and Amable López Meléndez, and writer Pedro Antonio Valdez. Karina Noble and Reynaldo Disla, from the National and International Festival Office, participated as observers.
The Festival is scheduled to take place between December 6 through 16, 2018. The participating plays will be presented in official and independent theaters in Santo Domingo and in other cities throughout the country.
