Santo Domingo, September 2, 2019 – The Minister of Culture, the Dominican Ambassador in Canada, and the President of the Commission on Homeland Anniversaries, recently announced the details involving the organization of the First Dominican Book Fair in Canada. The fair will be held in the city of Montreal.
The formal announcement was made by Minister of Culture Eduardo Selman, Ambassador Pedro Verges and historian Juan Daniel Balcácer during a press conference held at the Ministry in Santo Domingo.
The First Dominican Book Fair in Canada will be held from October 15-17, and will be organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Dominican Embassy in Canada and the National Commission on Homeland Anniversaries.
In remarks delivered during the press conference, Minister Eduardo Selman highlighted the friendship that exists between Canada and the Dominican Republic. He also mentioned that there is a hard-working community of Dominicans living in Canada. The event will be held during Canada´s celebration of the Month of Hispanic Heritage 2019, to be held during the month of October.
Former Minister of Culture and current Dominican Ambassador in Canada, Pedro Verges, also explained that the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in Canada began in 2017. The selection of the Dominican Republic as Distinguished Nation was determined by the Administrative Council of Hispanic Heritage in Quebec.
He also explained that during the event the Dominican Republic will present an ample exhibit of Dominican books, representing national literature, history and cinema.
The event is cosponsored by Concordia University, and will take place in Montreal during October 15-17.
