Santo Domingo, June 15, 2018 – The Ministry of Culture, through the Theatre Festival Directorate, officially calls on national groups and theatre companies to present their proposals to participate in the “X International Santo Domingo Theatre Festival 2018”, scheduled from December 6-16 of this year.
The call is made to professional groups with more than five years’ experience. All interested groups should register between June 18 and August 24.
At the same time, proposals for participation can be deposited Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. All applications should be sent to the International Theater Festival Office, situated at the Palace of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo.
Festival Guidelines
The Festival guidelines will allow for the presentation of plays directed at children and youth, as well as for adults. Street theater companies, puppet theater and musicals may also participate.
The works proposed must not have participated in past Festivals, and must be no longer than 45 minutes.
The National Selection Committee will have the responsibility of choosing the participants in the event.
At the same time, the members of the Organizing Committee, and the Selection Committee, cannot participate as producers or directors of works chosen to participate in the Festival.
All proposals submitted must adhere to the Festival guidelines.

On the Festival
The goal of this important Festival is to consolidate the country’s theater sector by creating a platform that will help strengthen, value and provide ample coverage to the participating groups, companies as well as professionals and upcoming actors.
Santo Domingo’s International Theater Festival began in 1997 and was founded by Natacha Sánchez who, at the time, was the Director General of the country’s National Theatre. Ramon Pareja, renowned Spanish theater director, also participated in consolidating the Festival.
Through the years, international theater companies have participated in the Festival, such as the Odín Theatet, from Denmark; Rajatabla, from Venezuela; La Candelaria, from Colombia; La Tropa, from Chile, and Cristina Hoyos, from Spain.
Renowned theater personalities have also participated, such as: Eugenio Barba, Santiago García, Roberta Carrieri, Flora Lauten, Rodolfo Santana, Arístides Vargas, Miguel Rubio, Marco Antonio de la Parra, Patricia Yosi, Carlos Celdrán, Cristóbal Peláez, Denise Stoklos, Tino Fernández, Rafael Spregelburd, just to mention a few of the great actors and actresses that have made their appearance in the Festival.
