Santo Domingo, August 28, 2018 – The “Long Night of Museums” returns to the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo this Saturday, September 1, with a new summer version of the activity. This time, the event is dedicated to the youth sector.
According to the Ministry of Culture the event is also being cosponsored by the Office of the Vice President, the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), the Casa de Teatro cultural center as well as other government and private institutions.
Although the event will officially open in the afternoon, the exhibits will open from 9:00 a.m. until midnight on Saturday, September 1.
The event is organized by the Vice Ministry of Cultural Patrimony and coordinated by the General Directorate of Museums, and will include guided visits to the following museums: the Alcázar de Colón – the official residence of Diego, Christopher Columbus’ first son –; Casas Reales, the seat of the first government in the Americas; Casa de Tostado and the Santo Domingo Fortress.
After the inaugural event, Dominican singer Natalie Hazim will lead a popular concert at the Museo de las Casas Reales, followed by other popular singers that will bring their music to the Zone’s Spanish Plaza and will officially close the event.
Architect Ana María Conde Vítores, General Director of Museums, provided additional information on the cultural and artistic events that are included in the program.
This time around, she explained, the Office of the Vice President will also participate sponsor a cultural program and will set up stands to sell articles made by local artisans.
