Santo Domingo, December 12, 2018 – The Ministry of Culture, through its Book and Reading and Book Fair Directorates announced the opening of the contest to design the 22nd International Santo Domingo Book Fair 2019 poster.
According to the announcement, the contest is open to students and professionals under 35 years of age who work in the area of graphic design or in related professions. The design must be based on the Fair’s 2019 theme: “Reading is Knowledge.” Other important references will be to highlight Puerto Rico, the Fair’s invited guest, and honoring Dominican writer Virgilio Díaz Grullón.
The deadline for all entries is Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 4:00 p.m. The design must be submitted with a pseudonym at the Book Fair offices at the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, situated on Máximo Gómez Avenue, corner of Pedro Henríquez Ureña Street, in the very heart of Santo Domingo. The basic information of the artist must accompany the entry in a sealed envelope, containing a biography of the artist and his Dominican identity card number.
The selecting jury will consist of five members of well-known graphic and audiovisual artists, as well as representatives from the literary world.
The final decision will be announced the fourth week of January 2019, in a public event that will be announced accordingly.
The contest guidelines call for aesthetic quality and originality in the final design, as well as avoiding traditional designs and an overloaded design. Also, a modern design, effective communication, integration of image and text, and capacity to summarize the importance of the book and reading cultures.
The winning artist will receive a US$1,000 award and a diploma. The poster will be widely publicized before the opening of the Fair and during its celebration.
