The La Romana-Bayahibe Tourism Cluster is an organization that for the past 10 years has worked to promote tourism in the region and to bring together industry-related businesses and communities to promote best sustainable collective practices. The cluster has become a model in waste management, recycling and general quality-of-life practices in local communities. Through the years, the La Romana-Bayahibe Tourism Cluster has participated in various initiatives to raise awareness on the problems pollution can generate. Also, to educate local citizens and visitors on new sustainable habits. Some of these initiatives include the regeneration of coral reefs and beach-cleaning programs carried out jointly with volunteers and the region’s hotel industry. For La Romana-Bayahibe, tourism represents the most important generator of income. Therefore, the protection of its natural resources and highlighting the infinite opportunities available in the region is an essential responsibility and legacy of the cluster.
