Santo Domingo, November 15, 2019 – According to information provided by Mr. Guo Yinghui, General Director of the Chinese International Chamber of Commerce, the exposition was set up in an area comprising two thousand square meters. Twenty-six prominent Chinese companies exhibited their latest products and technology in the areas of infrastructure, electronics, telecommunications, machinery, and public security and construction materials, among others.
The trade exhibit was divided into three main areas: the area where China’s national image is portrayed; the presentation of the participating companies and the products they specialized in, and another area which highlighted the trade and economic cooperation between China and the Dominican Republic.
In the national exhibit area, based on the future cooperation between China and the Dominican Republic, organizers presented China´s lunar vehicle, the nation’s high-speed train and the Jiaolong submarine. All showed the success China has had in the development of its scientific and technological sectors. Another important goal was to show Dominicans other aspects of Chinese culture and industrial growth.
Participating companies in the trade fair included such famous Chinese companies CEIEC, Hytera Communications Corporation Ltd., Huawei Technologies, ZTE, China Harbour Engineering Company and DJI. The companies exhibited their best products in order to promote the bilateral economic and commercial cooperation between both nations.
Small and medium-size companies from China and the Dominican Republic specializing in the areas of electronic products, solar energy, construction material, lamps, sports articles, agriculture, light industrial machinery, and hopes to promote greater cooperation between industrialists, merchants and suppliers.
On November 18, and with the goal of expanding, promoting and presenting the Chinese merchants to their Dominican counterparts, the Cooperation Council held a meeting between Chinese and Dominicans during the expo. Other participants included local politicians, entrepreneurs and representatives of national companies so that they could establish commercial ties between their respective sectors.
During the meeting, both sides discussed economic cooperation, trade, policies and the investment possibilities in various sectors. Another important point was to share their experiences in trade and investment.
The trade exhibit was held between November 18-21 at the Dominican Foreign Ministry Convention Center. Entrance was completely free of charge.
On May 1, 2018 the Dominican Republic and China established full diplomatic relations. Thanks to the establishment of relations, trade between both nations has increased significantly.
In 2018, the volume of international trade reached US$2.6 billion, breaking all previous commercial records in terms of trade. During the first semester of 2019, trade between both nations reached US$630 million, an inter-annual increase of 35%. All together exports between the Dominican Republic and China were US$180 million, an impressive jump of 403%.
