D.R. Consulate in California and DGCINE Promote the Country’s Incentives and Locations in Key Hollywood Studios

Santo Domingo, August 2, 2018 – The D.R. Consulate in California and the country’s General Film Directorate (DGCINE) recently carried out an unprecedented strategic tour to promote among some key Hollywood studios the country’s current film incentives and prime locations. The goal is to attract big Hollywood productions to the country.

After both institutions worked for several months on the coordination of the tour –  which took place between July 16-20, 2018, the final tour agenda included presentations and meetings with the heads of production and finances at Paramount PicturesUniversal StudiosSony PicturesThe Walt Disney CompanyMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer StudiosLionsgate EntertainmentNetflixHighland Film Studios, One Race Films and AG Studios USA.

The meetings were headed by Dominican Consul General in California Janet Blandino, and the head of DGCINE, Yvette Marichal.  Also included in the tour was Solly Durán, Coordinator for the Movie Industry in Los Angeles, and Ron Lizardo, head of the Consular Public Affairs Office.

The Dominican Republic offers the film industry the most competitive incentives in all of Latin America, and our objective is that each industry executive in Hollywood take into consideration the possibility of carrying out their production in our country when making these kinds of decisions,” explained Janet Blandino.

After the introduction of these incentives, created through Law No. 108-10 for the Development and the Movie Industry in the Dominican Republic, the country has become a film destination for the production of feature films and audiovisuals from production companies from all over the world.

This is why Dominican President Danilo Medina has established as a top priority the attraction to the country of foreign productions, as well as the distribution of Dominican productions abroad.

Aside from meeting with top movie executives, the Dominican Consulate in California and DGCINE met with some of the industry’s top Location Scouts to discuss the multiple venues and locations that exist in our country for possible productions.

“As a result of this meeting, both industries, along with the Ministry of Tourism, are coordinating upcoming trips with the professional and technical teams from various studios to the country in order to identify the more adequate venues to carry out their productions,” added Yvette Marichal.
