Ambassador Pedro Vergés recently met with a group of Dominican students who are currently studying in various Canadian universities in the city of Ottawa. This initiative hopes to encourage closer ties between the students and the Dominican Embassy in Canada. The goal is to establish cooperation channels between the students and the diplomatic mission, during the time they will remain studying in Canada.
As part of the agenda meeting, Ambassador Vergés and the invited students visited Rideau Hall, Canada’s House of Government. In Rideau Hall is where the offices of Canada’s Governor General are located, as well as the Governor’s Official Residence.
During the visit, the Dominican students – accompanied by Ambassador Vergés – had the opportunity to become familiar with the federal government of Canada and the responsibilities of the House of Government. It is in this solemn building where Canada’s Governor General, as representative of the British Crown, deliberates with the Prime Minister and other officials, meets with foreign visitors, and receives the credentials of new Ambassadors accredited to the Canadian government.
The visit included a luncheon at the Ambassador’s residence. During the event, Ambassador Vergés encouraged the students to continue with their studies and pursue their goals and strengthen their professional ethics. Ambassador Vergés highlighted the need to strengthen relations between the Dominican students with individuals linked to Canada’s various productive sectors. The Ambassador stated that the Embassy could help the students in their personal endeavors, and encouraged them to conclude their individual studies.
The event was described by Ambassador Vergés as the first of seven other similar encounters that are scheduled to take place between the Dominican Embassy and Dominican students in Canada.
