JAZZ PIANIST ANIA PAZ BACK IN SANTO DOMINGO WITH NEW REPERTOIRE

Santo Domingo, December 16, 2019 – Peruvian pianist and composer Ania Paz recently put on a top jazz performance at “Segunda Casa,” a cozy music hall situated in the very heart of Santo Domingo. Innovative as usual, after the concert performance Ania Paz held a Meet & Greet with her loyal fans.

“Segunda Casa,” situated in Santo Domingo’s AIRD Building, brought together Paz’ most loyal fans.  The program included compositions from her last two productions.  She opened the concert with pieces from her “Dos Mundos” album, taped in Peru and the Dominican Republic.  The goal of this particular production is to strengthen the cultural ties between artists and institutions from Latin America and the rest of the world through the universal language of jazz.  “Fortaleza” (Strength), her most recent CD, highlights the ties between Peru and Chile, and was formally presented during the Ninth International JazzUV Festival, in Xalapa, Mexico.

Throughout her jazz career musician Paz has worked to bring together cultures through her music, artistic disciplines, sponsoring the works of new composers and being an inspiration to her community as a whole.

She has been distinguished during International Jazz Day for the work she has carried out to create awareness on environmental issues, and how jazz can bring together and unite countries.  It also inspires innovation and creative freedom.

She has participated in such international jazz festivals as TCI San Jose Jazz Festival in California; the Rencontre autour du Piano, in Guadeloupe; the Buenos Aires International Jazz Festival and the San Vicente Jazz de Festival in Mendoza, Argentina; the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, in Cabarete, on the country’s north coast, and the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Valparaíso, in Chile; and the Jazz en Lima Festival, in Peru, among others.

She was also the recipient of the Ministry of Culture’s Jose Reyes award for a symphonic composition, and received the award for best song in Lima’s Festival Claro. Among others, she has also received the top award issued by Santo Domingo’s “Casa de Teatro,” one of the country’s most important cultural centers.  In total, she has produced seven CDs with her original music and one DVD.

After receiving two Masters degrees in Music in Germany and the United States, she taught at Peru’s “Pontificia Universidad Catolica” as well as in the “Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, where she received the university’s “Golden Talent” award.
