Santo Domingo, May 22, 2018 – The Ministry of Culture, through its Minister Eduardo Selman, announced the opening of the José Gabriel García Annual History Award 2018. The fundamental goal of the award is to stimulate research and encourage the publication of unpublished original historic work that will contribute to the understanding of Dominican history.
According to the rules of the annual award, “…all unpublished works that reflect and reveal an original interpretation of a particular aspect or theme of Dominican history…” may participate. Also, works on national and relevant figures.
Participants may reside both in the country and abroad. The submitted work must be presented with a pseudonym, and must be have a minimum of 150 double-space pages.
All works must be deposited in the Literary Office of the Book Fair Office, situated in Santo Domingo’s Cultural Plaza. The final deadline is September 1, 2018.
There will be a single prize award, valued at RD$500,000 (approximately US$11,000). No second prize or runner-up awards will be issued. The award jury may declare the prize null. The award announcement will be made in a public event, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 7.
