Foundation of Women Poets Announce “Cry of DR Women 2019: I Cry for Me!

Santo Domingo, February 18, 2019 – The International Foundation of Women Poets (MPI) Inc. – in association with the brand Grito de Mujer®, the Circulo de Escritores Escalera de Papel (La Romana Province), and the Provincial Cultural Directorate (Montecristi Province), cordially invite all those interested in participating in the celebration in the Dominican Republic of the Ninth International Festival of Poetry and Art Cry of Women 2019.

This year’s theme will be “I Cry for Me!” It is a cry for the self-esteem of millions of women who find themselves without hope due to physical abuse, sexual harassment, lack of self-esteem and the complete disregard of various sectors of society.

The event is being supported by national poets and artists who will bring their talent to the provinces of La Romana and Montecristi, where the events will take place on March 20 and 31, 2019.

The activities will begin on March 1 in 35 nations. In Montecristi, in the northwest city of the Dominican Republic, the event is scheduled to begin on March 20, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in the Máximo Gómez and José Martí Museum. The event will be coordinated by Laura Vásquez, the city’s Cultural Regional Director. Entrance is free.

A second activity will take place at the end of the International Festival. The event will be held in the eastern city of La Romana, on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., at the Casa Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima. The Regional Cultural Director, Juan Hernández Introit, and the Circle of Writers Escalera de Papel are also cosponsoring the event. Entrance is free.

The Cry of Women is a free festival that is open to the public, and that began in 2011 in more than 30 countries around the world during the month of March.

The Festival includes an active cultural program that features theater, music, dance, performances and social awareness poetry. This year, the Dominicana Republic, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Panamá, Nicaragua, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia, Portugal, France, Italy, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Macedonia, Luxembourg, South Africa, Australia, Ireland, Trinidad & Tobago, Ghana, Norway, Greece, Cuba, Guatemala, Brasil and Nigeria.

The Cry of Women is sponsored by public and private organizations, artists and literary groups in various countries.
