This activity, open to the general public, is part of a worldwide chain of events that are taking place to honor women and against gender violence in the Dominican Republic.
Santo Domingo, March 3, 2020 – As part of the active program of activities organized by INTEC University – one of the Dominican Republic’s most important universities – to commemorate International Women’s Day, the university will celebrate the international festival “The Cry of Women.” The festival has been celebrated for 10 consecutive years worldwide and will be held during the entire month of March in 31 countries.
The festival began to be celebrated in the Dominican Republic in 2011, organized by Dominican writer Jael Uribe. The festival will also take place in the north coast city of Puerto Plata.
The festival’s opening event was celebrated Wednesday, March 4, in Intec’s main auditorium. Co-sponsors include the Center for Gender Studies, “Vida Universitaria” and the company Eduardo Gautreau de Windt Productions.
The event’s general production will be in charge of Daga Gautreau; Nicole Reyes is production coordinator and Eva Camille Arias, production assistant.
Two events will take place in Puerto Plata: March 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the “Renovacion Library” and on March 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the “Luperón Museum.” These two events are sponsored by “Fundación Mujeres Puro Arte” and the Ministry of Culture North Coast.
The Cry for Women DR has received the support of local and international poets and artists. All will honor the motto “And Who Cries for You?”, in honor of all children, who are the collateral victims of gender violence.
The Cry for Women initiative also will highlight the struggles carried out by women in the country against gender violence.
Some of the countries that are participating in this initiative worldwide are the United States, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Chile, Guatemala, Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, Cuba, Portugal, Brazil, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Tanzania, Macedonia, Norway, Ireland, Luxemburg, France, Ghana, Australia, Nigeria, South Africa and India.
Overall, The Cry for Women has been celebrated in more than 70 countries, celebrating some 900 activities in the five continents.
