General Cinema Directorate (DGCINE) Reveals Details of Upcoming Second Congress on National Cinema

Santo Domingo, April 26, 2018 – The General Cinema Directorate (DGCINE) announced on Wednesday, April 25, important details of the upcoming Second Congress on National Cinema.

Details on the Congress were given during a press conference held at Directorate headquarters in Santo Domingo.   Other participants included members of the national press, industry members, educational organizations, government officials, representatives from the private sector and investors. During the event the head of the Directorate, Yvette Marichal, gave ample details of the Congress agenda, which is scheduled to take place July 5-6 of this year at the Ministry of Foreign Relations Convention Center.

“We are more than honored to present to you the second edition of this important event, which will be a space where filmmakers and individuals related to the sector will be able to share their vision and experiences regarding an industry that has become solidly entrenched both in our national and in international territories: the industry of the seventh art,” explained Ms.  Marichal.

She also highlighted the success of the first Congress, where some 1,600 participants, and national and international experts and speakers participated. The first event received the support of more than 20 sponsors.

Ms. Marichal also added that the Congress is the perfect scenario to reiterate the commitment of the institution, which is to promote and strengthen the development of the Dominican film industry.  Also, to encourage foreign investment in the local film industry.

During the Second National Congress participants will be able to participate in special panels and discussions that will be specifically geared to university students, industry representatives, entrepreneurs, and the general public.  There will also be a special exhibition area, where local industries will be able to provide information on their products and services.

The Congress will be open to the general public, free of charge.
