Dance lovers will have the opportunity to learn more about this specific art form by attending workshops, panel discussions and special recitals directed by Dominican and foreign experts.
Santo Domingo, September 27, 2019 – Dominican dancer and choreographer Edmundo Poy, creator of the “International Festival of Contemporary Dance,” announced that this year the Festival will present in its innovative program such events as “Alternative Spaces,” coordinated by Patricia Ortega, and will also include workshops, special speakers and panel discussions, all necessary to bring the spectator closer to the fascinating world of dance.
The program explains that until Sunday, September 29, a special program titled “Going Reverse” will include Dominican dancers and choreographers. Each event was held at 7:00 p.m. in “Casa de Teatro,” in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone.
The following Monday, September 30, a special workshop on contemporary dance, headed by Vicky Cortez and Florencia Chávez. The event took place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dominican National Ballet Hall at the Palace of Fine Arts.
Continuing with the program, on Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4, the National Contemporary Dance Company will present a special program titled “En,” at 8:30 p.m., at the Palace of Fine Arts.
Also on Friday, October 4, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., the Studio Tanca Dance Theater, from Slovakia, will sponsor a workshop on contemporary dance at the Royalty Dance Place, situated on 27th of February Avenue, No. 102, Edificio Miguel Mejía, fifth floor. Contribution: RD$500.
On Saturday, October 5, the program will include the Kalus Danza, from Colombia, which will lead a workshop on “Mestizo Technique” from 10:00 a.m. until noon, also at the Royalty Dance Place. Contribution: RD$500.00.
Activities at the Spanish Cultural Center
Spain is the invited country to the 15th anniversary of the EDANCO Dance Festival. The Spanish Cultural Center will sponsor various activities to highlight the participation of Spanish dancers and choreographers in the event.
On Saturday, October 5, at 8:30 p.m., the program will include “Dale pa´fuera,” an event that will include theater, dance and Jam-Music.
The play “The Beautiful Beast” will feature Natalie Borso and Alexander Duval; while the play “Edith Pop” – inspired on the story of Oedipus Rex – will be interpreted by Daymé del Toro and Cindy Sosa.
The dance piece “Fortia” will be choreographed and interpreted by María Emilia García Portela and Mehgan Abdel-Moneim. The original musical score was produced by Dominican musician, director and producer Amaury Sánchez. The performance will be presented by Erick Rodríguez.
Finally, the music for this particular space will be in the hands of DJ Freaky Philip.
